Metamorphosis - 56-1/2" x 56-1/2" These hand sewn butterflies were reversed appliquéd by Darcy Ashton and embellished with small, pearl white, glass seed beads. The 4" butterflies in the center of the block used 11/0 beads and the larger 8" butterflies used size 8/0 beads. The antennae were sewn with two strands of black embroidery floss and the outline stitch, the veins on the wings were created with a running stitch and black thread. Machine quilting was sewn by Brenda Esslinger and Darcy Ashton. Each of the four sections in this quilt were quilted to have a different texture. The center block was echo quilted, the dark orange border was stippled, the beige four patches were ditch quilted, and the large flowers in the final border were outlined following the design in the fabric. ©2006 Darcy Ashton all rights reserved. |
